Saint Xavier University's Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill.) literally stole Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Division I Player of the Week honors away from the rest of the field for the week ending February 24 with her five-steal, 18-point performance in a crucial league win over Robert Morris College, which was among others receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.
The 74-58 victory on Feb. 23 enabled the NAIA No. 11-ranked Cougars (21-6, 7-1) to maintain their half-game lead over No. 18-ranked Olivet Nazarene University (22-5, 7-2) in the conference standings with one week remaining in the regular season.
Half of McClain's team-high point total came from beyond the three-point arc, where she connected on 3-of-4 attempts. Overall, she was 7-of-14 from the field.
A 5-7 sophomore guard, McClain was also credited with three rebounds and one assist in the contest, the only one over the seven-day period for the Cougars.
