CHICAGO --- Finishing first or second in 12 of 14 conference sports during the regular season and capturing another three league tournament championships, Olivet Nazarene University has claimed its third straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sports Cup and its fourth in five years since the conference started the program in the 2007-2008 season.
The Tigers, under the guidance of fourth-year director of athletics Gary Newsome, earned a total of 116 points - the league's highest total ever - and won by their largest margin - 26.5 points - since the inception of the award. ONU outdistanced University of St. Francis, which placed second with 89.5 points.
Rounding out the top five were Saint Xavier University (81 points), Judson University (80) and Robert Morris University (73).
Olivet Nazarene captured regular-season titles outright in softball, women's cross country, men's tennis, both men's and women's track & field and women's basketball on the Division I side, while sharing crowns in women's soccer and volleyball.
The Tigers placed second in baseball, men's cross country, women's tennis and men's basketball in Division I. They captured CCAC Tournament crowns in softball, women's soccer and men's tennis.
St. Francis used a regular-season title in men's cross country, a conference tournament crown in baseball and second-place regular-season finishes in men's golf and both men's and women's track & field to gain runnerup honors for the second year in a row.
Saint Xavier edged out Judson for third place overall with top finishes in the conference tournament in men's soccer and Division I women's basketball as well as sharing the No. 1 spot with Olivet Nazarene in volleyball during the regular season. The Cougars also earned second-place regular-season finishes in men's and women's basketball, men's soccer, women's cross country and softball.
The CCAC All-Sports Cup is awarded to the institution that earns the most total points in the 14 sports sponsored by the conference (men's & women's cross country, men's & women's soccer, volleyball, men's & women's basketball, men's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track & field, baseball and softball) on an annual basis. Schools are awarded points based on their conference finish in each of those sports. An additional point is awarded to any school that claims a conference tournament title.
